A short history about Qasigiannguit.
At first we will like to explain the name of our town, Qasigiannguit. Many years ago, there were many seals qasigiaq and several qasigissat , which was around Qasigiannguit harbour.
Qasigiannguit is at the bottom of Discobay in North Greenland. Qasigianngiut town is in northwest in Greenland. Qasigiannguit is the next oldest founded town in 1734 and for that reason have left a long history behind it. The area near Qasigiannguit has been inhabited for 4500 years ago. The impressive founds from settlement Qeqertasussuk, which were from Saqqaq-culture, can you see at Qasigiannguit museum, in Poul Egedes house, which was also called for the drucstore, the oldest tree house in Greenland. A beautifully nature in Qasigiannguit municipality is a possibility for hiking for sightseer, both at the summer and at the winter, in part of sea and lands. A very good book for hiking sightseer was puplished "Vandringer syd for Jakobshavn isfjorden". Qasigiannguit is a nice and quiet town, and because of that the guests and tourist love to visit our town.
