Peat house (Illunnguaq):
In connection with Qasigiannguit's culture week in 1997, young
people from "Kissaviarsukkut" the young club "Aningaaq"
build a peat house assisted by Jens Josenius. The peat house was
later given to Qasigiannguit Museum.
The interior of the peat house is provided by
Qasigiannguit Museum, by the residential home, by the club for
elderly people, and by the club for women. An attempt has been
made to reconstruct the interior as it might have been before
the Second World War.
The peat house is both a pleasure and a pride to the locals.
It is a way to promote the traditional home of our ancestors
to nationalities from all over the world.
To spend a night at the peat house, please contact
Qasigiannguit Museum.
