Research at Sisimiut Museum

Fields of research:

Staff members of the museum are involved in different research projects.

Klaus Georg Hansen is M.A. in ethnography as well as in Greenlandic language and culture. Klaus concentrates his research around historical and ethnographic subjects in relation to Greenland. A particular subject of interest is the information technology in Greenland.
Counting larger ongoing research projects the following can be mentioned:
o Sisimiut through 250 years (until 2006).
o From kayak-mail to E-mail (until 2003).

In addition, Sisimiut Museum is involved in several external research projects.


Research fascilities :

Sisimiut Museum can offer logistic support for external researchers, in the shape of different facilities for research:

Guest researcher residence. The museum has arranged a guest researcher room with access to bathroom and kitchen. Researchers who have assignments in Sisimiut can reside on the museum. The price is 300 kr per night (app. 43 USD).

Research workplace. The museum can offer workplace with access to computer, Internet, telephone, fax, copy machine etc., to guest researchers.

Research library. The museum has a well-assorted research library. The emphasis is on literature concerning arctic archaeology and arctic anthropology as well as the history of Greenland. The library is open to public, but does not loan out.
